India is the home of her early childhood. Bombay is where she first learned the joy and power of adornment as she witnessed the rituals of daily life unfold. In the mornings her nanny made elaborate chalk renderings at the front door to ensure the goodwill of the gods upon the family. Every few weeks, sumptuous embroidered silk fabrics were spread over the cooling marble floors when a tailor would sit on the floor in lotus position sewing her mother's designs with shimmering cloth carefully selected from the bazaars in Bombay.
